From Joe Ragland Realty Enjoying autumn in the North Georgia Mountains is a wonderful experience.  The cool crisp air is invigorating with an occasional whiff of wood-smoke taking us back to simpler times.  The trees are just now beginning to show their glorious fall colors with bright red sourwood leaves teasing us for the show to come.  In early fall, the yellow leaves of poplar, birch, hickory, sassafras, sweet gum and some maples begin to shimmer in the sunny breezes contrasting later with the oranges of silver maples and white oaks.  The last trees to turn are red sumacs, maples and some oaks that gradually give way to the beautiful silhouettes of bare limbs against Georgia's gorgeous blue skies.  

We learn to leave for appointments a bit earlier during autumn's colorful display to allow for leaf-peeping tourists slowly admiring the views we enjoy daily.  Other draws are the numerous apple orchards and fall festivals throughout the mountains making it hard to pass up a fresh fried apple pie, the sinfully good apple bread, boiled peanuts and maybe a bag or three of delicious apples to take home.
